Energy's Future

Edward Goldstein

As the world continues to develop and use its reserves of fossil fuels, other sources of energy will be required to keep our economies and ways of life going. There are a number of possible sources for this energy such as hydro power and solar power. Only nuclear power, though has the possibility of providing all of our energy requirements without any significant technological advances.

While nuclear power has a bad reputation in some circles, it is actually extremely safe using modern reactors, and produces no greenhouse gasses. Nuclear waste is an issue, but we have plenty of room to bury it where it will not affect humans in any way for thousands of years. It may be possible to develop more efficient solar generators, but given the current unstable world energy supply it may be prudent to invest in nuclear power as soon as possible.
